SheerGuard SA relies on Makrolon® polycarbonate’s unique combinations of properties. It is extremely robust, lightweight with glass-like transparency and is impact resistant – even at extremely low temperatures. It has a high dimensional stability and is easily molded, yet has excellent heat resistance with a glass transition temperature of up to 148ºC.
When it comes to other manufacturers of transparent burglar bars, the virgin resin pellets are purchased in bulk from Covestro and then shipped to relevant destinations for manufacture. In order to stay cost-effective, some manufacturers mix the virgin pellets with regrind polycarbonate, which reduces its integrity, strength and longevity. Regrind polycarbonate is basically made from scraps and off-cuts of various polycarbonate brands and products from around the world which has been ground down into fine dust like particles for economical purposes. Unfortunately, the molecular integrity is severely compromised during this process! Lower standards of quality control in the production with inaccurate tolerances allowing for reduced thickness is common in some of the competitive brands. The end result is that they are cheaper both in price and quality!
